We report an unusual case of severe falciparum malaria with dengue coinfection complicated by AKI due to myoglobinemia and myoglobinuria while maintaining a normal creatine kinase (CK). Rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure in Plasmodium falciparum malaria.

This can be the result of multiple mechanisms [1]: hypovolaemia, excessive haemolysis, disseminated intravascular coagulation or impaired microcirculation due to a high level of parasitized erythrocytes. Rhabdomyolysis is another uncommon way of inducing renal failure in malaria infection. The diagnosis is based on high ser...

Biopsy Proven Acute Tubular Necrosis Due to Rhabdomyolysis in a Dengue Fever Patient: a Case Report and Review of Literature

Renal histology results are very scarce in dengue-associated rhabdomyolysis patients developing acute kidney injury (AKI). We report a case of dengue fever-induced AKI associated to rhabdomyolysis with a renal biopsy showing acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and renal deposition of myoglobin. A 28-year-old patient who presented dengue fever (DF) complicated by severe AKI and rhabdomyolysis is descri...
